Job Description:
Johns Hopkins University is hiring a Director of Human Resources
for their Baltimore and DC locations. The primary responsibility
for Director of Human Resources is ensuring the achievement of
human capital goals of the school and the larger university and
will be both a strategic thought partner for divisional leadership
and will oversee the daily functioning of the division's human
resources office. This person will envision, update, communicate
and execute the school's comprehensive HR strategic strategy for
its leadership, faculty and staff. This HR leader will report
directly to the Divisional Business Officer (DBO), with an
additional dotted line reporting relationship to the University's
Vice President for Human Resources. The ideal candidate will also
collaborate with appropriate Central HR resources to provide a wide
range of support and consulting services, including employee
relations, diversity, equity and inclusion, salary and compensation
administration, recruitment, onboarding, talent
management/development, organizational design, performance
management, HR compliance, and payroll/benefits administration.
This HR leader will foster innovative HR practices that produce
enhanced recruitment and retention of historically underrepresented
individuals and will promote actions that maintain an environment
that integrates diversity, differences, and fairness. They will
also develop and deliver efforts geared toward overall employee
engagement, productivity, and effectiveness, and will ensure that
human resources activities, services and counsel are impactful and
consistent with, and supportive of, established central university
HR and divisional vision, mission and plans. The role provides
critical leadership and consultation on highly sensitive/critical
issues. They will help to ensure that human resources practices
across the university are effective, relevant, support the needs of
the schools, consistently applied; and, are legally compliant.
Reporting to this position will be a combination of HR
professionals engaged in the various aspects of HR programming and
operations within the division. The candidate will also work
closely with the division's leadership team and JHU's central HR
organization, as well as peers in other academic divisions. The HR
Director will collaborate with Central HR counterparts in the
development and implementation of policies, programming, and
initiatives bringing their divisional perspective to ensure best
possible outcomes. Minimum qualifications (mandatory): Bachelor's
degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other
related field Eight (8) plus of progressively increasing leadership
experience in human resources management, including employee
relations experience, preferably in a university setting.
Equivalency formula for exempt roles: Additional education may
substitute for required experience and additional related
experience may substitute for required education, to the extent
permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree in related field Eight (8) plus years of
progressively responsible experience in leadership and management,
with relevant human resources management experience. Three (3) plus
years of experience of working with a senior executive team as a
thought leader Experience working in higher education is strongly
preferred. Knowledge and understanding of the university, its
history, culture, organizational structure and units,
decision-making process, policies and programs. Technical
qualifications or specialized certifications: Society of Human
Resource Management certification or similar preferred
