Job Description:
Overview of Position: The Director of Development and
Communications is responsible for the development and successful
growth of Ardmore's development activities to include fundraising,
major gifts, planned giving, special events, capital campaigns and
social media presence. This position will build strategic
partnerships to further promote the goals of Ardmore Enterprises
The director works closely with the Executive Director, the Board
of Directors, and volunteers in all development and fundraising
endeavors. The Director of Development and Communication is
responsible for all communications developed to promote the
services of Ardmore Enterprises and engage community members
through social media and online campaigns. Duties and
Responsibilities: General -- Collaborate with program directors,
board of directors, and people we support and their families to
provide input on organizational improvements, especially based on
feedback from families. -- Develop and support team of volunteers
to grow Ardmore's fundraising efforts and activities. Maintain
professional development memberships and affiliations. --
Demonstrate a strong understanding and dedication to Ardmore's
mission. Actively promote and represent organization's philosophy
through all interactions with both internal and external customers.
-- Performs all other duties as assigned necessary to fulfill the
mission of Ardmore. Fund Raising -- Meet prospective donors and
supporters on a continual basis to establish effective
communications. -- Grow a major gifts program including
identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors. --
Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and
reporting requirements; works with the staff and board of directors
to target Ardmore's mission and goals. -- Build the planned giving
program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest
expectancies. -- Direct the annual fund program, including mailings
and annual fundraising drives. -- Manage third party fundraising
entities such as The United Way. -- Direct capital campaigns and
other major fundraising drives. -- Create and coordinate annual and
special fundraising events. -- Represent Ardmore at speaking
engagements and public events to share information about Ardmore
with the community. -- Be the primary staff on the Board's
Development Committee meetings. -- Oversee fundraising database and
tracking systems. -- Assist the Finance Department with accounting,
allocating and reporting of funds raised. -- Assist and collaborate
with other staff. -- Oversee creation of publications to support
fund raising activities. -- Maintain gift recognition programs.
Board of Director Activities -- Serves as the primary point of
contact for all board communication. -- Develops and provides
ongoing support of the board development process. Communications --
Promote the mission and goals of Ardmore. -- Manage all written
communication materials including pamphlets, press releases,
articles, etc. -- Manage all social media including websites,
Facebook, etc. keeping communications, positive, informative and up
to date. -- Assist with press releases, responding to the press and
assisting other staff with public communication. -- Represent
Ardmore in community-based committees, such as the Prince George's
County Providers Council within the field with public relations,
fund raising and political action. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities --
Bachelor's degree or experience in Sales, Marketing, Business or
Communication degree strongly preferred. -- At least five years of
development and/or communications experience. -- Experience
building strategic partnership with a variety of community members.
-- Experience with public speaking, promotions, or marketing
strongly preferred. -- Must possess strong oral and written
communication skills. Experience in grant writing. -- Interest or
passion supporting people with intellectual disabilities in
achieving their dreams required. Must believe everyone can work. --
Must have excellent time management and customer service skills.
Strong ability to think creatively and develop strong internal and
external relationships and resources is required. Must be confident
and comfortable working with executive-level persons independently.
-- Must be available to work 40-hour work weeks, to include
evenings and weekends as necessary. Required Conditions of
Employment -- Must be able to drive and possess a good driving
record. -- Must meet eligibility for employment in the United
States. (Provide appropriate I-9 documentation on first day of
employment). -- Must have a clean criminal history. -- Must be able
to pass a drug screening. -- Knowledge of augmented communication
strongly preferred. -- Must be able to professionally,
intelligently and tactfully represent Ardmore as the first point of
